MacTutor and Service is an Apple Macintosh service, repair, and tutoring operation that was begun by owner and Apple Authorized Service Provider Melanie McDonald in 1997.

Since 2000 the business has been located at its present location at 110 E. Connecticut Avenue in Southern Pines.

Melanie McDonald earned her technical chops the hard way: by taking apart and putting back together a Mac SE when the Macintosh first appeared on the desks of computer users. She first was authorized by Apple as a service provider in 1998 and annually re-earns that certification by passing Apple’s demanding provider exams. Ask Melanie what she is proudest of in relation to her business and she will tell you that “I am very proud that clients who were with me nine years ago still call on MacTutor when they have a question or a problem.”

Sharon Shaw, retired from the faculty and administration of Sandhills Community College, came on board MacTutor three years ago as a general office manager and tutor in software programs and Mac operating systems. A longtime Mac user and the recipient of much help from MacTutor as a client, she is enjoying passing along some of the skills she has learned from others.
